Sunny Ridge and Ashcombe Maze & Lavender Gardens Easter Trip 2

One day while waiting to pick up my son from school, a mother chatted with me and told me she let her kid bring frozen bread with cheese to school as lunch... my jaw nearly dropped as I never prepare lunch for my kid using frozen bread before!

However, after that conversation I started to appreciate how we should look at life and the ways we should consume and preserve our food. The main reminder here is ...don't waste food! I started to think on the bread I threw each week...the unfinished big loaf! Then I make an effort to frozen the nearly expired bread.

The trick to make the bread comes "alive" is to apply butter on the frozen bread and heat it up using medium heat on a pan, the bread will turn soft and bouncy, you can't tell that the bread was frozen before. I tried to buy the green salad vegetables which come with root, as it can last much longer, the lettuce above already 3 weeks but still staying fresh in the fridge. And lastly, oh yes the main actor for today should be the strawberries, which we pluck it from Sunny Ridge Strawberries Farm :)

We went to Sunny Ridge Farm during Easter, the strawberries there really amazing, not just big but sweet as well. We bought the family ticket which allow 2 adults and 2 kids for $20.

It was a fun trip, messy and muddy, and feel the joy of harvesting the fruit. However, if you want to go, please wear rainboot!

As for the Ashcombe Maze & Lavender Gardens was a bit of disappointment because the Lavender Gardens was without the lavender flowers! and if compared to the Enchanted Maze Garden which I went on 2011, Ashcombe Maze is small and not really attractive.

Happy! as there was Easter Egg Hunt activity later on...but
he didn't finish his meal on time and I persisted he was not allow to join the egg hunt. While others came back counting how many chocolate eggs they got, I could see his disappointment but...he learnt his lesson.

  1. That time I was at Melbourne, I wanted to visit Sunny Ridge Strawberries Farm. But it wasn't in season, hence not opened then. :(

  2. Hi Ah Tze, early morning saw this egg sandwich made me feel hungry, haha! I normally freeze all my bread & on the sandwich day, I will take 2 slices down & leave it for 45 minutes, then I can prepare the sandwich for Ethan, usually just cheese & jam. But for other days, I tried to cook hot food for him to take to school. Love the strawberries. Our plan to visit the berry farm didn't work out because my girl was sick. Now the farm is closed for visiting, I think.

    1. Jessie, if you warm it on pan with butter, then no need to wait for 45 mins. Gabriel always make his breakfast order on the point he wants to eat, I don't have time to wait for 45 mins lah ^^. Warm up in pan with butter is faster...hehehe

If got chance, you should visit Sunny Ridge Strawberries Farm as it is really big compared to the one in Cameran Highland which I went years ago.
